Quantum Engineering of Light

Prof. Dr. Juan P. Torres

Activities

We generate photons with novel features for exploring quantum theory and implementing applications that require specific forms of light.

We generate, tailor, use and detect new types of classical and quantum light for:

  • Exploring fundamental aspects of quantum theory and
  • Enabling or enhancing the implementation of applications that might require specific types of quantum or classical light, especially in communications and high-resolution probing and imaging.

We consider with special interest new ways of tailoring the frequency and spatial entanglement of paired photons, through the implementation of new configurations in spontaneous parametric down conversion schemes. The spatial shape of photons is used for generating qudits with properties on demand (spatial quantum engineering).
